In this case a set of brass trays work to add color and a change in texture. Sometimes I feel the need to break up all the wood tones by bringing a different elements such as glass, ceramic or metal. Vintage accents are a joy to decorate with in any season, and I love moving around some of my favorite little pieces. It’s not really terra cotta, but it sure looks like it. It will be getting a lot more attention once our temps cool off, and we’re able to enjoy the fireplace again.īy the way did you notice the terra cotta colored pumpkin next to the arm chair? This is one of the pumpkins from my post Three Easy Faux Pumpkin Makeovers. This is seriously one of the most comfortable spots in the house to sit and enjoy a mug of hot tea. The geometric brown arm chair adds another pattern to play with in the family room. Their soft faded colors seem to bring in the feeling of fall in a subtle way. I’m mixing checks, floral and geometric patterns in colors of gray, blue, terra cotta and cream. Switching out pillow covers is always a fun exercise for seasonal decor. For fall I have a simple thistle watercolor in soft harvest gold colors. Since it’s a permanent fixture so to speak, I’ve been layering artwork over to change up the look for seasonal decorating. The landscape watercolor above the mantel is from my childhood home. I love using them loose or as vase filler in a glass hurricane candle holder. My favorite mini gourds are making another appearance this year. At lease these are somewhat realistic looking, plus I do love the color and texture they provide in the wicker vase. With our ongoing brutal summer heat, foraging just doesn’t sound very appealing, so for now faux leaves it is. For the first time I’m using faux branches instead of dried or fresh stems. All I need to do is add a few fall accents, and we’re ready to welcome the autumn season. With dark wood floors and a brown leather sofa, a sense of coziness is already built into the family room. These rooms have a southern exposure which means we have lots of natural light streaming in through windows overlooking the backyard.
